The Blacksmith Shop
Printer Friendly Version

The Blacksmith Shop consists of a series of buildings built between 1909 and 1937. Blacksmiths and other tradesmen worked in this area, shaping heated metal with either hand tools of a variety of mechanical hammers. The items that were produced included tools, hooks and springs.

Here amidst the array of forges, hammers, furnaces and the earthen floor, it becomes possible to comprehend the raw energy and forces of the Industrial Revolution.

The Blacksmith Shop remained in operation until the site closed in July 1994. Download an interpretative site guide.

Please note that The Blacksmith Shop has limited viewing.
